A four week course on connecting
with nature and the world of plants through gentle creative processes.
As a relatively novice gardener, I have been considering how gardening connects us; strangers offer advice at the garden centre, neighbours swap seedlings, overzealous harvests are shared with family, friends and given as gifts in celebration of abundance. Gardening is such a powerful vehicle for connection. Inspired by my continuingly expanding practice, and love of all things growing, I am offering a new course.
Vegetal Worlds.

What is nature?
The definition is anything not created by humans. There is living nature—floral, fauna, botanics, and beasties—and non-living: rocks, earth, water, land, air. Then there are processes and elements—weather, atmosphere, evolution, gravity, patterns, fractals, etc. Humans aren't necessarily thought of as nature in language. I believe this lack of belonging, this separation, this dissociation from our natural place in the world is a fundamental reason why most things are... well, a bit fucked.
My own embodied reconnection to nature has been powerful and life changing.
It began with drawing, but is anchored in experiencing and nurturing my relationship with nature—a relationship that continues to expand through the processes and practices in both my art and daily life as a being here. And I believe if we were all to reconnect with nature as guardians who live in reciprocity with it, instead of domination, extraction and destruction, we might just make it.
So here's my offering. I'm delighted and excited to share some of the precious processes with you in this new course. If you can bring a little trust, a tiny bit of bravery, some curiosity, and a willingness to just go with it, you are warmly invited to come journey with
What are the outcomes or benefits of doing this course with me?
This course is an invitation for connection — with nature, with creativity, with a small community of beings and with your own presence. It’s not about learning to draw a flower with technical accuracy. It’s about deepening your relationship with the vegetal world, and through that, with yourself.
Vegetal Worlds offers more than artistic technique. (although advice always given) It’s a doorway into deeper ways of seeing, sensing, and being — with nature, with your creativity, and with life itself.

Course themes
We will consider our connection to the plants we cultivate, through creative processes, take part in gentle discussion, reflection and sharing. Jen will offer instruction and guidance, simple and accessible demonstrations of approaches; such as sketching, drawing, painting, writing and mystical processes.
We will think about themes such as ecology, diversity, food justice and our responsibility as stewards of land, hear stories and delve into myth and folklore, and consider where our own personal connections to plants, tell stories and unearth alternative stories about weeds, blooms, mosses and plant communities.
Each session will have a focus, a short discussion, a gentle practice that may involve going out into the garden or whatever nature spot available to you. You'll be asked go collect things you are drawn to. This will help you ground and connect with the environment and themes of the day. There be lots of focused time to respond to the vegetal world's creatively through your choice of medium or method.
This course is suitable for anyone who feels connected to it. You can be a professional artist, poet, writer, or someone who is creative, or just a curious soul. You may even be someone who connects with my work and maybe needs some peaceful processing time in their life, or is interested in deepening their connection to themselves through a love of nature. This course is for anyone who wants to slow down, look closely, and let the vegetal world inspire their practice and hopefully their soul too.
This course is rooted in Jen’s own practice and is a deep sharing with you of her most precious processes. Jen's work is about connection, the final works are often graphite drawings, but as with most artists, its a small part of an expansive and complex practice. Think fungi, the drawings are the fruiting bodies, but what about the vast network of underworld hyphae, those processes and practices, that are the foundations and playmates of those ideas? This is a rare opportunity to be in the artists space, and see the world through their eyes, be immersed and inspired and grow your own mycorrhizal connections.
Jen's work often combines the traditionally beautiful, with the exiled and rejected weird and wonderful in nature. They are inspired by the science of the natural world, but more so engaged in the esoteric, the enchanted and the unknown. There works draws on folklore, fairytale and myth, and drawings are filled with symbolic language, unruly vegetation, mystical ambiguity and references to archetypal story. The work is liminal; reflecting a world of interconnectedness, a bridge between the known and the unknown.
You will be sent a materials list of what I might use, but you are free to express yourself on any way you feel called to.
There will be time to share and optional weekly practices to do in your own time, no pressure.
Recording will be available after. So if you miss a class you can catch up!
